A family weekend in Cooperstown, planned from your campsite
Shadow Brook is a ten minute drive from the Village of Cooperstown, close enough to spend the day in town and quiet enough to sleep well. Here’s one easy way to plan a weekend.
Friday: settle in
Check-in is 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Running late? Your check-in package, with a map to your site, waits in the paper sorter to the right of the General Store door. Get the fire going and let the kids find the playground.
Saturday: baseball in the morning, camp in the afternoon
The National Baseball Hall of Fame is about ten minutes away, straight down our road into Main Street. In summer the Village trolley runs from lots on the edge of town (not from the campground), which saves hunting for parking on Main Street.
Come back for the afternoon. The heated pool is open Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend (there’s no lifeguard, so watch your swimmers). Families sluice for gems at the Shadow Brook Mine, and the weekly flyer lists what’s on that Saturday, from art projects to s’mores.
Sunday: one more stop on the way home
The Farmers’ Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum are each about 20 minutes away. Check-out is 12 noon for RV and tent sites and 11:00 am for cabins, park models and rental trailers.
If your family is here for baseball
Cooperstown Dreams Park is about 20 minutes from the campground, and the Doubleday Batting Range about 15. Book early for tournament weeks.
Rainy day? Grown-ups’ night?
- Howe Caverns, about 45 minutes away, is underground, so the weather doesn’t matter.
- Brewery Ommegang is about 25 minutes away, and Cooperstown Brewing Company about 20.
- Glimmerglass Festival & Opera is about 15 minutes away.
